SV Elversberg and Mohammad Mahmoud part ways
SV Elversberg has terminated the contract of striker Mohammad Mahmoud early. The 21-year-old will now join Austrian second-tier club Austria Salzburg. SV Elversberg currently sits in 2nd place in the 2. Bundesliga with 62 points from 34 games (18 wins, 8 draws, 8 losses).
Why the move?
Mahmoud joined from VfL Bochum's U19 two years ago. After four brief appearances in the first half of the 2024/25 season, he was loaned to FC Zürich. Upon his return in summer 2025, he failed to break into the first team and made no further appearances. "Unfortunately, our time together wasn’t as successful as we had hoped," said SVE sporting director Christian Weber.
What does this mean for SV Elversberg?
Mahmoud’s departure is another step in the squad’s restructuring. The team is currently in strong form (WLWDW) and has scored 64 goals while conceding 39, resulting in a +25 goal difference. Their next match is away against SC Paderborn 07 on December 12, 2026.
Mahmoud’s future in Austria
In Salzburg, the striker hopes for more playing time and a sporting breakthrough. "I’m looking forward to the new challenge and want to establish myself in Austria," said Mahmoud. SV Elversberg wishes him all the best for his future.
